Phantom Tollbooth mask

What is the task? : The task was to create a mask of the character that we have to act out from the Phantom Tollbooth, exaggerating the character with the elements of art.

Who is my character? My character is Milo. he is lazy in the beginning of the story, but a better person in the end.

Elements of Art:

Texture: I can’t use much texture, except keeping things smooth to show that he is rather ordinary, and has no extreme feelings of behavior.

Shape: I will use mostly rounds shapes to show his laziness and that he is not a bad character.

Colour: Him being a normal boy limits my colour usage, because if I use strangs colours, people might get confused with the character.

Line: I will also use curved lines, but also some straght but not jagged lines to show his determination at the end of the story.

Pattern: I can’t do anything much except using sterotype patters for his hat to show him being a normal boy.

Coral

Yes, I know. I haven’t updated the blog for ages, but… It’s not my fault because There wasnt a single finished project… Until now, so din’t blame me. I made a painting of coral on canvas, which was something new and interesting. We had all sorts of depths in the picture. here are some ways to create depth (There are more in this post) :

darker coulor in the background _Or on the sides of coral, depending on where the light is from.

things are smaller

Less visibility (you can do a wash of a watery milky white over you painting, the further away the object is, the more paint. (It should look like fog, dust particles, or under the sea, it would be floating around sediments) I didn’t use this technique, but it is certainly a very useful technique. I din’t put and of that in, bucause I wanted my water to look clean and pure. Also, if simething is in the distance, then there are no thin dark lines.

textures in coral can be aquired in mand different ways:

scapel (not the knife, but a paint a paint scapel tryout different ways to use it for differentextures and shapes.)

paintbrush (different sizes and textures, they all are different)

sponge (some corals have such texture)

Paint (The amount of water affects texture too)

Try all sorts of materials. They all give different results, and my last piece of advice. Try new materials on a scrap piece of paper.

Term 2

This is our first project in Term 2. We had to create a name tag using 1 point perspective. This is when somethings edges are non pararell and intersect at the vanishind point, like a triangle sort of to make things look like they are far away. my design were two balls from the game RICOCHETcarrying my first and last name. My first Idea was using pastels to write my name in block capitals startind with red on the bottom of the letters, then orange, then yellow.n I then thought that it looked like fire, then I thought of fireballs, then the fireballs in the game RICOCHET, then a rall ball to go with it. I decided to do this design because the first design never worked out, and I was slowly running out of time. The eyelevel is at the first letter, and the vanishing point is behind the trail about 2 cm, it looks like the ball if in the distance.

This is the procedure.

1. Choose a design

2. Plan and try it out.

3. Start drawring in pencil and coloring in.

4. Add fineliner.

5. Laminate to chosen surface.

I would give myself 6 out of ten because it isnt the best job, I was slow with it, and I could probably done better. I could have improved by planning more. I was sucessful with creating a nice name tag, but I was slow with it, and it isnt very good to my opinion. I have learnt that you should always plan until you are absoloutly sure, and then don’t hurry too much either.

We continued on our humanities project, which for me was the phonecian tablet. I have the problem that it always cracks, but with a few more layers, it should be ok.

Since I finished my book title, I continued with my humanities project, which will soon be finished. Later I noticed that I could quickly go to the library and do a title for the book cover which I havent finished yet, so I quickly made one and then continued with my humanities artifact.

Week 8

This week we continued our book covers. I finished, so I cut out the margins, and put on double sided tape, but I still need the name of the book, then I can mount it, and then I’m done. Since I still had more time, I simply went and started my ancient civilizations object. I think that I’ve finished the frame of the ancient tablet that I’m making, but it all depends on Aey, if he wants it bigger in any other way.

Negative spaces reflection

In our negative spaces project, we would think of a space with lots of negative spaces and holes, then we would draw a draft, then draw margins on three pieces of paper, and then, ever so softly, we would draw the picture from our draft. It should be so soft that you wouldnt see it from a distance. Then we would make all the negative spaces wet first, then apply colours, according to a colour scheme planned. you mut make sure that all of the three panels line up like one whole picture. Later, cut it out, and then mount it on black paper for best effects.

Week 6

I finished all of my panels, and i managed to cut them out, and I already put glue on all of my panels. now I only have to mount them all. It was a bit boring. I think it will looks a lot better if I use double sided tape to mount it, because it sticks better, and it doesnt peel off. I think we ought to mount with any colour we like, not only black.

Week 5

We ontinued with our paintings, and I got another panel done. I did this panel in hot colours. I have to take my dw home to cotinue. I think this last panel will be painted in complementary colours.
